چکیده

Global climate change is the main issue of discussion among scientists throughout the world. The effects are beginning to become obvious as sudden changes of the weather conditions in many regions have been occurred the last years. Greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide, are responsible for this change. One of the main sources of carbon dioxide emissions is the electrical power generation from fossil fuels (coal). Additionally the operation of this kind of power plants results to Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) and Sulphur Oxide (SOx) emissions which are also harmful for the environment. 84% of the electrical power generation in Greece is produced from lignite combustion and thus optimized operation of the conversion system will result in higher effi ciency of the whole process, with the same electrical power generated consuming less fuel and producing lower emissions.

A mathematical optimization technique for managing selective catalytic reduction for coal-fired power plants

Selective catalytic reduction (SCR) is an emissions control technique that primarily reduces harmful emissions of oxides of nitrogen (NOx). To maintain SCR performance, catalyst layers maybe added, removed, or replaced to improve NOx reduction efficiency. To make these changes, power plants must be temporarily shut down, and SCR maintenance during scheduled power plant outages can be very expen...

Improvement of Efficiency of Coal-Fired Steam Power Plant by Reducing Heat Rejection Temperature at Condenser Using Kalina Cycle

This paper proposes an approach for improving the plant efficiency by reducing the heat rejection temperature of power cycle using Kalina Cycle System 11 (KCS11) which is integrated at the steam condenser of a 500 MWe SubC (subcritical) coal-fired power plant. It is modelled by using power plant simulation software ‘Cycle Tempo’ at different plant operating conditions. Results show t...

Coping with carbon: a near-term strategy to limit carbon dioxide emissions from power stations.

Burning coal to generate electricity is one of the key sources of atmospheric carbon dioxide emissions; so, targeting coal-fired power plants offers one of the easiest ways of reducing global carbon emissions. Given that the world's largest economies all rely heavily on coal for electricity production, eliminating coal combustion is not an option. Indeed, coal consumption is likely to increase ...

Combining Support Vector Regression and Ant Colony Optimization to Reduce NOx Emissions in Coal-Fired Utility Boilers

Combustion optimization has recently demonstrated its potential to reduce NOx emissions in high capacity coal-fired utility boilers. In the present study, support vector regression (SVR), as well as artificial neural networks (ANN), was proposed to model the relationship between NOx emissions and operating parameters of a 300 MW coal-fired utility boiler. The predicted NOx emissions from the SV...
